How Social Media Helped My Business Grow (and How It Can Help Yours Too!)

When I first started using social media for my business, I had no idea what I was doing. I thought I just needed to post a few pictures, maybe share a promo here and there, and people would magically find me. Spoiler alert: That’s not how it works!

Over time, I learned that social media is less about selling and more about connection, consistency, and community. Now, it’s one of the biggest reasons my business has grown, bringing in new clients and creating real relationships with my audience. If you’re trying to grow your brand online, here are some things that have worked for me—and might work for you too!

Sharing More Than Just Sales

At first, I made the mistake of posting only about my services and promotions. But I quickly realized that people don’t just want to be sold to—they want value. I started sharing skincare tips, answering FAQs, and showing the real results my clients were getting. Once I focused on education and authenticity, my audience started engaging way more, and those interactions turned into bookings.

Tip: Share things your audience actually cares about! Whether it's tips, behind-the-scenes moments, or a funny story, let your personality shine.

Using Video (Even When It Felt Awkward at First!)

I’ll be honest—getting on camera used to make me nervous. But once I started posting Reels, stories, and little behind-the-scenes clips, I noticed a huge difference in engagement. People love real moments, whether it’s a skincare tip, a product review, or just a peek into my daily routine.

Tip: Don’t overthink it! Start small with quick clips or time-lapses of your work. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

Actually Talking to People (Not Just Posting and Ghosting)

One of the best things I did for my social media growth? I started treating it like a two-way conversation. Instead of just posting and logging off, I made a point to respond to comments, answer DMs, and interact with other businesses. That’s how you build a real, engaged community—not just a number on a screen.

Tip: Social media isn’t a one-way street! Take a few minutes every day to respond to comments and engage with others.

Using Hashtags & Location Tags the Right Way

I used to throw random hashtags in my captions and hope for the best. Now, I’m way more intentional. Using the right hashtags—especially ones that are local and industry-specific—has helped me reach the right people. And don’t forget location tags! A simple tag like “Meridian, Idaho” can put your business in front of potential clients nearby.

Tip: Mix up your hashtags with a blend of popular ones and more niche ones. And always tag your location to attract local clients!

Teaming Up with Other Businesses

Some of my biggest growth moments have come from collaborations. Partnering with other local businesses for giveaways, guest features, or events has introduced me to entirely new audiences. Plus, it’s just fun to work with other like-minded people!

Tip: Look for ways to collaborate! Whether it’s a giveaway, an Instagram Live, or just shouting out another business, partnerships can help you grow faster.

Final Thoughts

Social media can feel overwhelming, but when you focus on connection over perfection, it gets so much easier (and a lot more fun!). These strategies have helped me grow my business, but the most important thing is showing up consistently and being yourself.

If you’re on this journey too, I’d love to connect—let’s grow together! And if you’re already following along, thank you! Your support means everything. 💛
