Let’s talk about something that affects almost everyone: online skincare advice.

The internet is a powerful tool that gives us access to endless information—but not all of it is good. I’ve seen so many skincare myths and bad advice floating around on social media, and unfortunately, many people follow these tips without realizing the potential harm.

One of the biggest skincare trends I see online is the use of essential oils on the face. While essential oils have their place (I’ve personally used the doTERRA Panaway and Breathe blends with success), they aren’t always safe for facial skin. Your skin’s moisture barrier is delicate, and adding foreign oils can be a total gamble. If your moisture barrier gets damaged, you might experience:

  • Dry, scaly skin

  • Itchiness

  • Rough or discolored patches

  • Acne

  • Sensitivity and inflammation

  • Increased risk of bacterial, viral, or fungal infections

Yet, most influencers don’t talk about these risks when promoting products. And that’s the issue—many online recommendations come from people with financial incentives rather than skincare knowledge. That’s why I always encourage people to seek advice from licensed estheticians.

So how can you spot trustworthy skincare advice online?

  1. Follow licensed estheticians – These are professionals who have spent years studying skin health.

  2. Be wary of “absolute” claims – If someone guarantees a miracle cure, they’re likely trying to sell you something. Skin is complex, and what works for one person may not work for another.

  3. Look for people who offer education, not just sales pitches – That’s why I always offer free 30-minute consultations. Good skincare advice should be personalized and based on science, not just trends.

At the end of the day, skincare isn’t about following the latest fad—it’s about understanding your unique skin and giving it what it truly needs. If you ever have questions, I’m here to help! Let’s talk skincare, community, and everything in between.

Until next time, don’t forget: You Belong.
